Windows 7 (x86/x64) - Customise your start button orb with one click!

Explorer modification = gay.

Seriously, just leave the interface as it was intended rather than hack it to bits.

People then wonder why their systems are less stable and more prone to failure, leaving UAC on would be a good start.

If you're a noob then yes, I agree It should be left alone. If you know what you're doing it's perfectly fine though. Nothing wrong with a bit of customising.

UAC is annoying as hell. It's only there for noobs who read dodgy emails and go on bad websites.

... and to stop things like the Blaster worm.

But we'll gloss over that, and assume it's just there for idiots who are into piracy and porn.

Why you'd turn off UAC now I have no idea - just turn the interaction down a notch! I could understand it with Vista (for those who didn't know about the silent mode), but with 7 it's hardly intrusive.

My system is never unstable or slow and I'd never recommend something to people that had the potential to cause a system to be anything less.

Tweaks like this are nice to have, they're something different and as long as you're not a total noob (which nobody to my knowledge here is) then I don't see any issue with a bit of customisation here and there to personalise the OS you use daily for years on end. I have my own (valid) reasons for keeping UAC off (which is off topic to this thread but relates to apps like MPC-HC where I cannot save favourites with UAC on) and I am pretty confident that my OS and its config is one of the most organised and streamlined on the forums thanks.

Keeping things completely stock all the time is also pretty boring and uninspiring. OC Forums is filled with people doing different things and sharing those ideas with others. At least I'm contributing.

..

And anyway, UAC won't save your OS from being ridden with malware to begin with. Just yesterday I received a client's laptop with Vista Home on which had AVG, UAC and Defender installed and updated yet Malware Bytes found over 28,000 infected files, folders and registry entries.

You can have all the security and UAC settings turned up in the world but it still won't protect a system from user stupidity.

thanks for the orb changer!

i already modify the logon screen via the registry and an extra folder addition

UAC is and always has been completely off!

The Logon Changer works great,, just run the exe and change the background. Normally things like that are a real pain todo. But the Logon Changer is like a 10sec job.
