windows 7 "xp mode" needs hardware VT support

I was just going to mention that this sort of thing is what seperates Apple from MS! :p

MS do something then realise that it isn't going to suit everyone and change to suit legacy hardware. Apple on the other hand would blindly stick to ther guns and blame it on oeveryone else. :p

was VT enabled in your laptop bios
on my acer it wasnt so i have to VT hack mine to turn VT on
for some reason acer turn it off in there laptop bios`s

edit
found this for those without a VT CPU

yes it was - business grade laptop means i had the option to turn it on :)
i bought a new laptop since which also supports VT
that said, i hear that AMD-V is actually massively faster than Intel-VT...

In what way? I've only needed it once for a customer who had about a dozen old Windows 2000/XP software packages and it ran it all flawlessly.
all of the changes they made to improve the "XP-mode experience" made it a bit slow and clunky. for my purposes it actually turned out faster to just use an XP Virtual machine in VMware.

fixed ;)

It would appear to have backfired slightly (although to be honest I've never heard anyone ever complain about it) that's why they're re-enabling it.

That's how I meant dropped the ball, though as you say I certainly don't blame them for trying to take advantage of a new technology and encourage people to upgrade. But its left them open to people calling it an atrificial limitation, and coming up with all kind of conspiracy theories about how it was some kind of evil plan.

i've just been having a quick readup on this and it see it requires hardware VT in the cpu to work. so lots of people with budget cpus won't be able to run it at all. shame.

you have to wonder why people with budget cpus would be running windows 7 professional in the first place?
