Windows 8.1: How do I stop the annoying "Open File - Security Warning" when I run something?

So I love using quick links... I have one for Firefox which simply opens up Firefox, believe it or not.

HOWEVER, Windows 8.1 asks me every time if it's OK to run it. And indeed so do other programs I add in there to such as Steam.

How do I stop this stupid message from coming up?

That works... BUT it seems to be suggesting it's affecting my Internet security?

If that's the case, that sounds dangerous. All I want to do is allow Quick Launches to launch.

I'll swear Microsoft don't use their own OS else they'd realise how much worse each version is getting!

just found this, if its 1 file that keeps appearing you should be able to disable on that 1 file extension only

Tried loads of things and even using "ElevatedShorts"... The ElevatedShorts program does not work with the "Links" icons.

Anyway, sorted it myself :)

Create a folder in "My Documents" say called "MyLinks". Drop any icons you like in there.

Now right click on toolbar > Toolbars > New Toolbar and select the "MyLinks" folder.

Now all you have to do is move it to the far left of the task bar, and turn off the "Show Text" and "Show Title".

Voila! Click on the icons and no warnings...

excellent, glad you got it sorted :)

It is bizarre just how daft Microsoft are though.

So "their" Quick Launch gives you stupid internet security bases warnings, when all you're doing is running programs on your machine... But one you go out of your way to create (to mimic it), works better!
