My Windows 8.1 has had this annoying bug for a while, I think it started after an update, my graphics also updated and had a problem about the same time, I just downloaded the latest drivers from ATi and it fixed it, but with this sound problem I don't know where to start.
Explanation of the bug.
I use an external DAC connected via USB as a soundcard, after my PC has been on for a while if I turn on my AMP (which is connected via HDMI) it doesn't allow me to use it, if I right click on the speaker icon in the system tray and click sound output devices nothing happens, after a few minutes the sound control panel will pop up but it never recognises new devices that are connected, this includes USB microphones. The only way to make it work is a reboot, after some time it will happen again, basically not seeing any new devices. I'm not sure how long it takes, could even be connected with my monitor power off setting. This is what it seemed to relate to when I had the graphics bug, my screen turns off after a certain amount of inactivity and wouldn't come back on.
It's annoying having to reboot all the time, any idea what I need to re-install without re-installing all of Windows 8.1?
