Windows 8.1 - Taskbar hands/freezes after login

Either go in to the bios and change the boot order to the DVD drive as primary, or tap the F8 key when you first turn on.

Ah hmm, F8 was always what worked on my asus boards. Try F11 like the other chap suggests. I will reboot for you to see if I can figure out which button it is on my gigabyte board, and find the location in the bios for the boot selection (I am pretty sure there is a section called BOOT).

Ok I tried several of the F keys without any luck. However on my gigabyte board, if your using the new type bios screen (UEFI), there was a "BIOS" option on the main page of my board, I was able to change the boot order there, or if you use the classic bios (I press F2 to get this), I have a "Bios Features" menu, and at the top of the menu is the boot order.

Tried tapping F8 nothing happened restarted as normal.
Looked in my BIOS settings can't find nothing about DVD Drive.

Every motherboard is different.

You need to tap F12 on Gigabyte Z87-D3HP-CF to get boot menu.

You will find boot priorities in BIOS Features section to change DVD drive as first boot.

If install Windows 8.1 didn't fix the issue then your SSD could possible fail soon caused freezes and hangs. Check Samsung Magician SMART to see the SSD health status and try update to latest firmware and run Samsung 840 EVO performance restoration tool.

OMG awful pics. Need to zoomed out!

I checked the manual, it seemed you scrolled to the bottom, you need to scroll all the way to top to find boot priorities list.

First pic shows the Boot option priorities?

I don't understand though it should be loading from the drive I have not touched anything in BIOS to do with my drive.

Oh I see, look like you not showed full picture. Cant see devices list to boot at right side.

Accorded to manual there should be blue boxes at right side allow you to change devices list.

Did that and PC still loaded as usual?

Hmmm well not really impressed with Gigabyte UEFI, it have no EFI devices icons you can tap to boot direct like my ASUS UEFI have are really very cool.

I had another look in manual, maybe you need to look into Hard Drive/CD/DVD ROM Drive/Floppy Drive/Network Device BBS Priorities also in BIOS Features just below boot priorities.

I can't find nothing to do with other devices etc.
I have not touched anything in the BIOS for my DVD drive to stop working..

It worked yesterday but not now.. strange..

If you have set the boot option #1 to the DVD drive it should be working as long as you have your windows DVD in the drive that is!

Followed everything you guys have mentioned and nothing has changed start-up starts up as normal and does not tell me to press and key to continue for the Windows 8.1 disc to load.

Dumb question but did you save the changes? Go back in to the boot order menu and see if it is still set to the DVD drive!

Just checked and for some reason it keeps reseting even though I am saving the settings I have changed? I've checked twice now and it's resetting it's self. :(

Are you 100% selecting the "Save changes and exit", and not just pressing the Esc key followed by enter? (Sorry if that sounds patronizing)
