Doing a quick search of the MS website gives some clues, but mostly referring to Vista offering solutions that do not seem to apply here!

Anybody else had this issue and managed to resolve it before I start poking around under the hood! (I am minded to try to update after a clean boot but wanted other opinions before doing this)

(The really annoying thing is that every time it tries to reload the update it dl's the whole Gig :( all over again! Why are these DLs not stored locally once initially DLd  )

Been having a problem getting this installed since it came out, still no luck getting it installed even with all the solutions posted on various sites.

Just having to hope MS come out with a fix of some kind.

Was having the same problem but came across the below fix which worked for me.

1) Open an elevated command prompt.

2) a) If you’re running a 64-bit version of Windows, enter the following command into the Administrator: Command Prompt window and press the Enter key:

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14

b) If you’re running a 32-bit version of Windows, enter the following command into the Administrator: Command Prompt window and press the Enter key:
dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1.14

c) If you’re running Windows RT 8.1, enter the following command into the Administrator: Command Prompt window and press the Enter key:
dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~arm~~6.3.1.14

3) Then enter the following commands and press the Enter key after each command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

4) Run Windows Update again and try to re-install KB2919355

5) If Windows Update still fails to install the update, Windows 8.1 customers should try to install it manually from the Microsoft Download Center. You can find the download links here:

32-bit versions of Windows 8.1: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42327

64-bit versions of Windows 8.1: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335

Yep!

Much the same here. I am glad (In the nicest possible way ;) ) that I am not after all the only one here!

(Though I cannot believe that we are the only two! :D )

Great MS strategy.

Invoke a "Compulsory" update that fails on a very large (Total unknown) of systems!

(Does MS update report back to MS on systems where update fails with error codes etc??)

Tried that one, The DISM "Restorehealth" thing doesn't work :(

(I get an error code DISM Error 0x800f081f )

Sooo Waiting for more I guess!

How do I check if it's already been installed?

You should be able to click on a link in "Windows update" that will show your update history. If it has been installed it should show as such!

(hopefully! :( Some of the web blogs suggest that even this might not be reliable! Seems like a total **** up actually!   )

Yeah none of these fixes have worked for me, tried more DISM commands than I can stomach in various combinations but the update still fails after the reboot, just says update fails and rolls back.

Can't get it to install on the Mrs's PC either, doesn't even appear in Windows Update.

I've manually downloaded the files and just get 'This update doesn't apply to this computer' and the ones that do run just 'Fail' and roll back.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to do a full reinstall...

Hey guys:) I've been having a right mare on my backup system:eek: tried all of the above to no avail and then tried 'a system refresh' never used it before but gave it a go. Elected to keep all progs, settings etc and it then reset system files back to vanilla 8.1. So when I then ran windows update it started from scratch 40+ updates later and a process that seemed to last forever:o ended in an up to date system and so far everything functioning:cool: I also did some spring cleaning to free up space etc so don't know if that helped things along. In hindsight this seems a bit obvious so if you guys have already tried this sorry for waffling on:o but it worked for me:)

Ok this is weird.

My Windows downloaded the update again at some point in the background due to it being an important update I guess so when I went to reboot my machine it installed it automatically.

There was me thinking great its going to try then fail on the reboot and roll back... instead it just completed it as normal.

I am shocked, been trying to get this to install for over a week and now it just does it for no reason?. Crazy

Might have to give this a go. Do I need an 8.1 ISO to do a refresh?

Hi Hex:) I'd suggest first to create a recovery drive within your current install (usb drive approx. 2gb?) and boot from that and see if it gives you the option to refresh and keep everything first. this would be the easiest option, other wise you may need to find a guide to do it the way you've high lighted. looking online everyone seems to be finding different solutions:confused: my backup system was very cluttered so I assume a combination of spring clean and refresh did the trick:)
