Windows 8.1 will not sleep

EDIT: SOLVED - see my final posts for all settings changed and two main culprits

Any suggestions to keep Windows 8.1 asleep?

These two are the only suggestions I've found and they haven't solved the issue:
1.) disable Wake on Pattern Match
2.) disable all autonomous 'Sleep' items in Advanced Power Settings

I've been trying to setup WoL (Wake on LAN) but my rig wouldn't remain asleep for more than 10 minutes. Option #1 cured the issue completely... until I purchased a Broadcom bluetooth dongle and the sleep problem reappeared immediately after instillation (I've even tried removing the dongle to no avail).

I had the same issue, disable IPv6 on all of your network devices. That should fix it.

Have you checked in task scheduler to make sure nothing else is waking your computer?

Can't be bothered to screenshot it but if you go into device manager.

Find the Bluetooth device. Right click and properties the device. Click on Power Management and untick 'Allow the device to wake the computer' as it's only happened since you've installed the Bluetooth device I'd say it was this that was waking your PC.

Just to be sure I didn't miss a setting, for each device I only disabled the four IPv6 options shown in these two windows.

Unfortunately it's still majestically waking, so were there any others?

see the "wake on magic packet" ? disable that

I need that for Wake On LAN, which is only the entire reason I'm going through this. Haha

Hmm looks like there was one manual maintenance item with the allow to wake option selected. Lets see if that was it. I also disabled the other two shown in the image.

BY JOVE I THINK YOU'VE CRACKED IT JASE!

It remained in sleep for a full 20 minutes. Tonight will be the true test, hopefully it'll stay in sleep all night. I'll post an update tomorrow.

Fingers crossed its now sorted. If you have windows media centre installed I know that also sometimes creates a scheduled task to wake the computer to update itself.

I would have presumed the task you listed above wouldn't start the computer as it's set to manual. I might be wrong though

Oh boy... it's still waking up and the event log doesn't show a thing. This is insane.

I'll take a look at the media centre settings.

Mate I have the same problem as you...

for some reason my PC which is sittung under my telly as a Media centre wakes itself up randomly.. cant for the like for me work out whats triggers it...

sometimes i will hit sleep and it will boot up again within five seconds...

For some reason tasks in Media Centre don't always show up in the event log for some reason. I had to wait for it to happen and track it down with the "powercfg –lastwake" command line.

Also if you have a IR remote, try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them.

I do have an IR remote but the drivers are built into windows... should i try deleting it from Device manager then letting windows re install?

Yep, also switch USB ports.

The Media Centre task I am talking about is the mcupdate_scheduled task. This is usually set to wake the computer when WMC is installed.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. It's also nice to have someone else trouble shooting these things too.

Nothing has worked so far but I'm going to try this media center fix next.
