Windows 8 Adoption Poor

I disagree, there is a little group of windows 8 lovers that badger everyone that criticises the OS and kills any discussion.
I disagree, there is a little group of Windows 8 haters that pop up in Windows 8 threads badgering anyone who posts anything positive about Windows 8, accusing them of being a "Windows 8 lover" in an attempt to kill any discussion. ;)

Businesses will jump over to Windows 7/8 soon as XP official support expires, I know the organisation I work in has 5000 desktops/laptops and they'll all be moving in the next 12 months, probably to Windows 7 though.

For most large companies Windows 7 makes sense. It works well, has had time to bed down and be fine tuned, the management and build process is well defined and there's plenty of W7 skills around. W8 makes more sense for scenarios where users need touch enabled companion / tablet devices in an enterprise although it works just fine on a desktop/laptop as well. W8 and W7 will co-exist happily although of course you then have a second build to patch and manage.

No gang, and no jumping on all bad comments, only invalid or non based comments. I've pointed out a few issues myself, did I jump on myself then?. I actually have comments to say. What do you post? Rubbish, constantly.

See here you go again with a bully like tactic if no one agrees with you or your agenda you go off on one.

And I don't believe you read the all of the threads you post in because you will see other members warning of you coming in and start name calling.

In fact there is one on page one of this thread!

Back on topic.

And for anyone on Win 8 and has a Z77 chipset turn on the Intel'sFast Boot” technology. You can even use it in win 7 :)

works the other way round also. there is a little group of windows 8 haters that badger everyone that says good things about the OS and try's to kill any discussion

Remind me who came here attacking? Bullying LOL that really is funny. You may want to read my first post in here, before going off on one.
Someone else saying it doesn't make them right, I didnt even respond to them.

Whilst people like Tute and the OP will love to declare Windows 8 is a failure, they either don't understand, or choose to ignore the all important context as it spoils a "omg the dramaz" headline.

In terms of market penetration Windows 8 is currently a failure compared to other versions, that's a fact. You seem to be ignoring the context of massive discounts and holiday season sales. Windows 8 just isn't very popular.

Not surprising news at all. I'd happily use vista over this BS.

Bit harsh? I'd use Vista over W8 on my home PC but at this point Vista is well polished and a lot of the initial bugs and performance issues have been smoothed out.

Calling W8 "BS" is a bit strong for my liking. Have you tried it on a tablet or phone? It's very nice to use on those.

And you ignore the totally different landscape.
From XP having such a long life and thus companies ready to upgrade. Companies only just upgraded to w7.
Economic climate
Trend away from desktops. W8 was never going to Bose desktop sales. It should have made a bigger impact on mobile devices, it has a bit with wp8, but tablets they've absolutely cocked up. That's not to do with the OS but with tablets/price/availability.

Source? I'm hardly the biggest fan of W8, but I've never said that.

None of those excuses changes the fact it stands at 2.67% of the desktop market. It's an unpopular version of Windows, get over it.

Lol, now this is what I'm saying.

What complate rubbish. Every single one of those reasons impacts that figures. To say otherwise is complete BS.

I don't need to get over anything, it's hear to stay and I'm glad. mS have made it clear what they want from windows and where it's heading and it suits me more than any other OS by a long way. Especially when they get the next Edison out and it's even more integrated between all devices.

You can also add to the last there's far more computers around now than 3 years ago. Yet sales in absolute terms for desktops/laptops are smaller than three years ago. Every single one of these points has a direct effect on the percentage.

If you include what pcs actualy are today. apple has over 20% of the market mainly due to ipad. Seeing as that wasn't released till 2010 it how's how fast the scene has changed.

It is an unpopular version of windows whatever metric you use. I think the main problem with it is that it doesn't go far enough for casual users and hides the better technical stuff away even from more technical savvy users so it fails for both camps even tho the potential is there for both.

Main problem is tho for most stuff Windows 7 got it right and so not many people are in a hurry to move on especially to an OS that changes up what they are used to quite dramatically.

I've had Windows 8 since it came out and it's still got many "features" which frustrate me. Turns out I can give it loads of time, but I'll still not like it.
I tend to agree, whilst I quite like it as an OS there are things about it that have me scratching my head. I suspect the plan from Microsoft to move to more frequent updates and feature changes will help refine it. I don't think the Metro screen will be going away (although I dare say it'll be refined again) though, it's painful but give it a few years and people will wonder how we ever used the 1990s style desktop start button and nested menus :)

Pretty much, yes. And the lack of market take up is evidence of it.

It's Windows. If they wanted to completely change things, they should have called it Tiles.
why?

it's still windows.. metro is just a start menu replacement with added features like being able to run apps from it, metro is not a separate OS

Huh ?!?

I have windows 8 on my PC. I have the windows key disabled on my gaming keyboard. Very rarely see metro now. I don't even need a start button replacement.

Once I have the desktop set up, that's it, and im happy.

I game on it and I also have it set up for .Net development with IIS and various servers. It also streams my media to all my other DLNA devices, thru-out the house.

I never really liked metro, and still don't. But I don't let that get in the way of using the desktop.

Looking forward to all the free blue updates.
