Hi all

I have been playing with Windows 8 and really cant get used to the Metro interface for desktop use.....anyway I installed Stardock Start8 which adds in a normal Start bar again and also looks nice and has the same overall style.....

So now I’m thinking that I might buy Windows 8 now as I was not planning to and install Start8.......has anyone any opinions on this or have seen any problems? Also apart from faster boot up and improves memory use what else would I gain from WIN 8?

Thanks

I have been testing the Start8 beta for a couple of weeks and today they sent me a code for 20% off this and their other desktop products. Well worth $4 to get a proper desktop Start Menu back. The Modern UI works great on a tablet or phone but for me it just doesn't work for a multi-tasking multiple window desktop.

Much improved is an overstatement. There are a few enhancements, but it's effectively the same as Win7 in regards to a desktop user.

The built in is multi monitor support is improved as well as copy dialogs, also task manager is much better.

So for myself, only using one monitor, don't give a monkey's about copy dialogues and rarely use Task Manager... i should stick with Windows 7?

In a word, yes.

I do use multiple monitors and I'm sticking with Windows 7 (I don't need anything more than an extended desktop).

It's not about the Modern UI so much as Windows 8 just doesn't do anything for me. It wouldn't make my job any better or easier or allow me to do anything more or faster in any way, so at the moment I can't see why I'd pay money for it.

The copy dialogs and queuing are nice, but I use Directory Opus anyway, so they have no benefit for me.

If something changes or becomes more apparent then I may be swayed before the price goes up in January, but otherwise I can't see me upgrading until Windows 9 (providing it doesn't further doctor things for desktop users).
