Windows 8 was actually designed for everything, not just touch.
Utilise it and it is extremely powerful.
If you do media consumption then you are crazy not to use metro for such tasks. It is clearly superior with superior apps for such things, give me youtube, netflix, audible etc on metro over desktop software/website. It's night and day better.
The desktop still functions exactly the same and is in now way harder to use.
How much media consumption you do and the value you put on taht differs. But it really is a good os with clear improvements and far more than just metro, you have the start speed, back up actions, task manager, live account etc.
Everyone hates it to start, you need to get new muscle memory, but that soon comes,
If you still can't stand metro then there's always starts back or similar.
But in no way is metro hard to use with k&m, I don't even own a touch enabled win8 machine.
ATM metro for media consumption, desktop for work and that will be the way for a long time.
Although you should watch a sensible youtube clip as the introduction MS provide is rubbish and not really helpful. Many people do not realise than the charms bar is specific for the app, so can't figure out where search/settings are.
Or that you can right click bottom left to get something similar to start menu and is customisable.
