Windows 8 for gaming

I would assume this is more down to an individuals hardware / software to whether or not any issues occur. and might depend on the games themselves you play. some games might be fine others not, some might be find on one persons system but not yours.

Best way to find out is to install and just go for it. if not worth the risk to you. then just wait a while longer.

i would assume most issues have been ironed out.

Hi Guys,

just wondering how Windows 8 is now, now its out of beta and released. Are there still driver issues e.t.c? or is it ok for me to install it for gaming?

Cheers,

James

Everybody has different hardware etc.. and games, however I've not run into any issues so far in gaming ie XCOM via Steam,Skyrim,GW2,ME3 via Origin,Dragon Age ,Dragon Age 2,Civilizations 4,Star Trek Online, Star Wars Old Republic,Rift,Aion,Diablo 3,SWGemu,Witcher 2,Risen 2 and my list goes on.

I'm using Nvidia based card with latest drivers and official drivers for Asus Xonar DX card ie Win7 x64 ones before upgrade.

Punkbuster and Battelfield 3 (Bad Company 2 as well), fails to work online well. I get kicked out of the game.

My "gaming" Creative sound card keeps failing too, I have had to reinstall the drivers like 5 times now and rising.

Well that is just normal issues everyone gets,no matter the OS, for me it has worked perfect with 8 and I play a lot of BF3.

First thing I ditched was Creative over a year ago ,get yourself a decent card like Asus Xonar DX and your driver issues are gone.

As to BF3,tried this?.
Got it working by setting everything to "Run program in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Also let window 8 run Diagnostics when it ask you if the program is not running right and it set everything to Windows 7 also. then went to Battlefield directory and ran pbsvc.exe so it was up to date. So far ..so good..ran a few hours and it seemed to be working. For now.

No problems with BF3 in Windows 8 here.

Only random issue is screen goes momentarily black when you die - this is a graphics driver issue.

i had troubles with cod4 , bf3 , punkbuster yes i reinstalled updated :p

also dirt 3

so i would check for issues with games you play a lot first.

some have issues some dont.

i would personally stick to w7 for gaming for a while yet.

With the games I've played on it (Anno 2070, Skyrim, Diablo 3) I've had no issues at all, not even anything minor in comparison to Windows 7.

The only issue I've had is fallout 2 but googling it, seems same problem happened with win7 for some, still haven't found a solution.

Ran fine first time, second time, it says dont use comparability mode and closes down. I'm not using comparability mode and nothing's change since the first time the game ran.

I solved all my issues by uninstalling Windows 8 :), and putting Windows 7 back on.

I await mature drivers from third parties and lots of patching from Microsoft...

I bought a new sound card, Soundblaster Z (yes I got Creative), but have not bothered to put BF 3 on my little SSD I put Windows 8 on as it is only 60 gig in size with 24 gig spare. BTW the Z card works well with Windows 8...

Right now Windows 8 is like Linux to me, when I am bored I will tinker with it...otherwise boy does it need a service pack or patching...

Aside from the Modern UI why do you feel 8 needs lots of patching?
