DOWNLOAD FAQ
Can you upgrade 32bit windows 7 to 64bit Windows 8?
Yes, but you can't do this using Upgrade Assistant. If your PC has a 64-bit capable processor (CPU) but is currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can install a 64-bit version of Windows 8, but you'll need to buy Windows 8 as a DVD.

You also won't be able to keep any files, settings, or apps when you upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit version.

OEM is the new retail and old OEM combined, with substantial license changes

If you purchase the software separately, in a package or as a download, the rules are much more liberal. Note that the text for the following rules is identical for retail upgrades and for System Builder software that you install on a PC you build yourself, or in a virtual machine, or on a separate partition. Emphasis in the following sections is in the original:

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you. … You may not transfer the software to share licenses between computers.

There is no limit on the number of times you may do this type of transfer, providing you follow the rules I describe later in this section. That means hobbyists who like to tinker with PCs can relax. If you buy a System Builder copy, you can move (not share) that license from an old PC to a new one.

FAQ & Error Codes
  • You will need 20GB of free space on you HDD
  • Can you upgrade 32bit windows 7 to 64bit Windows 8?
Yes, but you can't do this using Upgrade Assistant. If your PC has a 64-bit capable processor (CPU) but is currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can install a 64-bit version of Windows 8, but you'll need to buy Windows 8 as a DVD.
  • You upgraded to Windows 8, but didn't have a previous version of Windows installed (error 0xC004F061)
If you see error 0xC004F061 when you try to activate Windows 8, it means that you're using a product key for an upgrade version of Windows 8 and a previous version of Windows wasn't on your PC when Windows 8 was installed. To install an upgrade version of Windows 8, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC.
If you formatted the drive before the upgrade version of Windows 8 was installed, you won't be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you'll need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8. For help with the activation process,
  • How do you remove windows.old?
From the start screen type "free", select "free up disk space by deleting unnecessary files"(under settings), run on C:\, click on "clean up system files" near the bottom, once it reloads select "pervious windows installation" and hit OK.

Remember there are two new features, so clean installs should be far less frequent
Reset your PC – Remove all personal data, apps, and settings from the PC, and reinstall Windows.
Refresh your PC – Keep all personal data, Metro style apps, and important settings from the PC, and reinstall Windows.

I wouldn't of done that, it's meant to run till end of jan.
I expect its getting a redesign. All you need was to enter an email address and people where grabbing multiple codes. I expect they pulled it and are going to need the serial number.

I tried to install, but unfortunately I get to the personalisation page and I have no mouse cursor and keyboard inputs don't work either.

Have tried different USB ports, wired and wireless keyboard/mouse but nothing seems to work.

This is coming from Windows 7 Pro, without a wipe.

Do the devices power up?
Did you make USB/DVD?

After is downloaded and before it installs it gives you option to make USB or DVD.
But Serial key is allready in there and it'll only contain 32 or 64bit depending what the installed windows is. And I'm not sure there's any option to buy multiple license anyway.

The download is small, so might as well just buy on each machine.

Aero no longer exists.

Took for ~5 mins to download on my connection, parents estimated time is 11hours, means ill have to go back tomorrow.

Glaucus, sorry if this has been answered 10,000 times but after the initial upgrade install can that key then be used for a fresh install if say you change your mobo. you wouldnt have to reinstall win7 then upgrade to 8?

its the potential of having to do 2 installs in the future that mean i dont want to go for this upgrade option.

The key can be used but According to ms you need to reinstall w7 first, but it seems a few have already installed it with a new HDD, while other it's installed but hasn't activated.
Either way it's not worth spending the extra £80 to cut a 45min w7 install out on the odd occasion.

Also WMC page is working taken 26hours for my codes to come through though.

No, you upgrade your license to win8.

I put it on my parents and my mum was flying along in about 30mins. Was loving the free games in the store and having no isues jumping between desktop for family tree and office and metro for games/music etc.

I showed her dkydrive and she said how much do we need, so I had a look and she instantly got her card out and paid the £16 a year for more storage.

I also set up a live account for them(without admin, although I did give them the admin password), so if they do break it loads of settings are synced and off course refresh/reset.

The store and live tiles where her favorite, she can know find safe software easily and install it knowing there won't be issues. And like the weather app live tile and Callander.
