Hi, I have recently installed windows 8 on my dell studio 1749, the laptop is around 2 years old, specs are in my sig (not changed to os yet in my sig)

Anyway on windows 7 everything was installed fully with no issues, now after putting windows 8 on, i cannot seem to install the mass storage controller, i have tried all the original drivers i had.

It keeps showing with a yellow ! saying that the drivers aren't installed, i tried finding a driver through windows update but no luck there either.

can anyone suggest anything?

I assume it's just an Intel sata controller?

With my XPS 15z I downloaded the latest from downloadcenter.intel.com, but that was before Dell had updated their site with the new drivers for Windows 8 (Dell released a full driver set for the XPS 15z on 26/10/2012).

If the ones from Intel don't work, try a different Dell laptop model (for example I'm using the touchpad controller driver from the 13z).

i have tried installing them from dell and intel and it keeps saying none found.

here is a screen shot of the device.

And what does it show under "Storage Controllers"?

Seems to me like you are missing a driver for something else, storage related, but perhaps not your main SATA controller. Maybe the eSATA controller (if it has one)?

Infact, what are the Unknown Device's hardware IDs? It will be something like PCI\VEN_1111&DEV_AAAA&SUBSYS..... Interested in the 1111 and AAAA codes.

thanks for the replies up to now :)

paradigm - under storage controllers it says: microsoft storage spaces controller

if i remember right, on windows 7 i think it said scsi something (could be wrong)...

the hardware id's of this unknown device says:

PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_8130&SUBSYS_041B1028&REV_01
PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_8130&SUBSYS_041B1028
PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_8130&CC_018000
PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_8130&CC_0180

thanks
