Hi all,

I can’t find any information about the Windows 8 upgrade licence once you have gone through the windows 7 to 8 process and activated it as an upgrade. What I would like to know is, can you rebuild your machine or change hardware like the main HDD in the future and clean install windows 8 from USB/DVD on it or must you install windows 7 first and then windows 8 every time?

Thanks,

Not sure about the first issue but I would presume you can install it even if you change hardware. I upgraded from Windows 7 retail which allowed the install to be moved to another machine or different hardware so dont see why upgrading would have removed that choice.

On the second issue no, you do not need to install windows 7 first. The ISO you created has already validated that you had a previous OS. You can use it to do a clean install.
