Windows 8 Metro App Thread

metrotwit and wikipedia are nice full screen interfaces, although kinda pointless if you're on a pc :p I still like to look at them though, I think I finally get why people flock to apple's shiny shiny stuff.

Amazon is now on there, need to update op, when I get on my desktop.

The only thing I hate about that app is that it is exactly like the older iOS amazon app where you had to type in what you wanted into the search bar and there was no ability to shop by department and all account access (except for logging in and ordering things) is done through the website (which is something you can do through the iOS app).

One thing that was bugging me is that this didn't show up in the shopping new releases section (I had to go through the search system to find it even though it was listed in the shopping top free section).

4od app is available too.

I've noticed an something annoying for dual screen users, with a metro app running, go back into the start menu and the metro app closes. This is especially annoying with the 4od app is it plays adverts again. :(

I don't really see the point of a metro version of adobe reader since microsoft reader is included with windows 8 and that can handle pdf files just as well.

Steam Launcher (Free, x86, x64, ARM) - Add beautiful tiles on your start screen to launch your Steam games!
Note that the app doesn't install either Steam or your games, you have to install them separatly.
The app requires you to make your profile public, but will continue to launch your games if you make it back private

Great little app, and exactly why steam should be making windows8 apps that are free. could even make chat ones etc. But no he has his head up his rear.

But if you've got dual monitors you're on a PC so why don't you just use the internet like you always used to

I swear some people actually create problems for themselves by trying to do things through metro apps when the standard desktop way would be quicker.

People like using metro style apps. Simple as that really. And while 4OD might have an alternative not everything does. Viewing your start screen should not throw you out of an app if you don't want it to.

It's sometimes nice to use built in apps instead of their web based equivalent. Due said issue I think I'll continue to use their Youtube channel instead. Also added advantage of no adverts.

I prefer using a good app over websites.
Take the netflix app and filmon app, both better than the website and more convient.

Video and radio apps has showen what's possible with good apps. Just need these qaulity apps to extend into the other sectors.

Just use adblock and the ads are blocked on the 4od website anyway.

You'd be right if the apps were are malleable as standard programs. I have two screen, I should be able to have 2 'large' apps running and two 'small' apps running all at the same time imo. At the very least two full screen apps, for example a ted talk on one screen and a news page on the other.

I can only assume this was an oversight that will be fixed shortly.

Just looked at request policy. Doesn't that cripple your web experience?

Not really. 99% of the time I visit the same sites over a week which I allow permanently all the required content. When visiting a new site they often use *cdn.co.uk or *static to host images/templates so look odd before you temporarily allow it. My main reason for starting to use it was the amount of sites that use Facebook.

Also another round of updates or the core apps, speed boost and stability Ives as well as things like conversation view in the mail app. They have confirmed that the updates are based on people's responses, so if you have an issue, use the feedback link, which IRC is in the charms settings.
