Morning lads & lassies,
Ok ever since removing Acrobat Reader from my system I have been having problems with my pc see list below

1) everytime I click an icon or select a program from my programs menu the computer does not open that software it just brings up a box saying Open With, and I get a list of different programs I can it with ? If I right click on a program to bring up the options menu I get the normal list but instead of the word Open being embolded the word Read is embolded, so If I want to open a certain program I have to right click and then click open ? for some reason if I just click or double click on a program as you normally would my PC is trying to read that program instead of opening it, how do I get around this problem ?

2) When I double click on my system clock I get a control panel error come up saying C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll36.exe Application not found I also get this error when I try to open other programs in the control panel such as add & remove programs and others.

So what do you lot think ?

system restore..........................?????
could be wrong though ..........looks like you have unistalled some reg keys.......I would try a system restore myself.I dont thing it wuld but back acrobat either. The way I look at it you havent anything to loose. lol

Loss of associations is usually caused by a corrupt '.exe' or 'exefile' key in the registry. These are found in 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT'

It is possible to roll the registry back if you have some corrupt keys. I could copy verbatim from other sites, but if you google for 'c:\windows\repair' you should be able to find good instructions on how to do this.

The other option is to export the keys off a working PC and import them onto the fubared one.

If Regedit and Command will not run you can start them by right clicking on the Taskbar and selecting Task Manager. Select file and while holding down the ctrl key and select New Task (run). This will open a command window typing regedit should cause it to run.

Good luck

^ If that doesn't work the next thing I would try is a XP in-place repair; almost guaranteed to fix that. If that still doesn't work, you're probably looking at a wipe and reinstall of Windows.

Otherwise, you could be there forever trying to sort this problem.

what is a XP in-place repair

Boot off your Windows XP CD, and at the prompt press 'enter' to continue installing windows (don't go into the recovery console) and after accepting the EULA (by pressing F8) it will tell you that you already have a Windows XP installation available, and asks you if you would like to repair it by pressing 'r' - do this. If it doesn't pick up the fact that you already have an installation, then you have a bit of a bigger problem.

It will then reinstall windows on top of your current one; you won't loose any files or settings, it basically just refreshes the system files.
