windows backup question

i dropped my wifes laptop and smashed the HDD lol..

i have a Back up DVD that was made about 2 weeks ago, if i do a fresh install of windows and run the backup disk will it restore the old files and programs. or is the disk only to repair after say a crash not a full drive loss.

if i cant other than cloning how can i do this?

What do you mean a backup DVD, what was it made with?

Very unlikely that you've got the whole system image on a DVD, unless it's a very fresh install.

Always take backups!
