Windows Broken Cant Reformat

well my mums windows install is muffed up i cant reformat unless i backup 160gb onto cds :( it has somekind of old school zeus on it i think ( trying to steal bank details by hijacking bank pages ) and has a lot of other random adware. also i cant use cmd or any alternative (command.com etc) and ive just got windows defender running. also when i start it i have to open task manager and manually start explorer.exe. it hasnt been powerd up in about 3 weeks due to me being cba to fix it i just gave my mum a laptop instead but shes really getting onto me about her wanting some work stuff and photos thats on it.

any ideas ?
 
Hook it up to another PC and then transfer files?
Risky if it's virus riddled but then again so would backing up files on to CDs

Get a boot disc with virus scanners/malware scanners and use that to boot?

burn the image with IMGBURN


boot from cd with this in, and you'll get a 'live' install, that you can copy files over the network, or onto a usb drive etc..

buy an external hard drive, and get some spare hard drives, dead handy.
 
trust me she has so much rubbish she needs in diffrent places i cba xfering files it literally is 150gb of pictures and docs and presentations. also to person who suggested slax shame on you :P debian all the way bro :)
