From a recent trip to Amsterdam! Went to use the cash machine and found this waiting for me. Got excited and tried pushing all the keys but couldn't get CTRL+ALT+DEL to work or get it to give me free money! Managed to get Windows Help to open however, but that just wasnt as much fun as it sounds :(

lol, that reminds me of when i was at Stansted, one of the checking in screens had a big fatal runtime error message across it =D

Theres a windows cash machine at Cheshire Oaks.
IIRC, it was having a McAffee error at the time i went to use it. :p

You seem to get these a lot at the pub 'multiple choice gaming' machines. Who Wants to be a Millionaire type things.

All the ATMs that I work on now run NT, although word is that at least one UK bank is going over to XP shortly.

It's quite rare for the application to crash to NT. It can happen after a power cut (corrupted software), or when the autologon process fails (expired password).

The EPP (main keypad) and FDKs (function keys) aren't usually recognised by NT, as they are serial devices connected to a "personality" board inside the PC. They will only work properly within the application. To use NT, you need to connect a PS2 keyboard inside the ATM.

Seems funny to me how they use windows though and not some dedicated cash machine type software  Could that be how those card reader type things work that attach to cash machines yet let you draw out cash? The cash machine slot is acting like a USB connector and NT installs the drivers or something?

I would have thought Winblows was overkill for something that only has to do a few things. A dedicated, more secure and crash free proprietry OS seems more appropriate.

At least they're not wireless networked I suppose. :p

I saw one that had crashed in the middle of Newcastle after a night out, this was a few years back and it was running on NT4. Being computing students at the time we found this highly amusing.

LOL, No. The card reader is a stand alone device. Funny if it was though.
