Not sure if anyone takes any notice of these scores but I do, so my base score was 5.9 being caused by my HDD transfer rate. I upgraded my Seagate Barracuda to a WD Velociraptor (why all the animals!?) which I've read is one of the best performing HDD's on the market. And it hasnt changed, still 5.9, am I doing something wrong or would it take an SSD to beat 5.9?

5.9 is top score for all mechanical hdd's,maybe only slightly higher if in raid 0,for top scores you need an ssd,all ssd's outperform any mechanical hdd even in raid

It could be that the hard drive wasn't the lowest scoring device, WEI goes by the lowest performing device

thanks for the replies, seems that SSD is the answer, but seen as I've only just bought this and SSDs aren't financially viable in large sizes then I'm satisfied I've done all I can HDD wise
