Hi,

I have 8gb (4 x 2gb) DDR2 800mhz Kingston Hyper X memory in a Gigabyte P35 DS3L. The Windows Experience Index shows it up as 5.9 on my pc, where as a mate also has DDR2 800mhz but his shows up as 7.0?

I was wondering if anyone knew why?

I know the index scores are far from the be all & end all of performance measuring on the pc, but it seems to show that my system might not be set up correctly?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Different timings on the RAM may make some difference.

Are you sure the RAM is running at 800MHz?

Download CPU-Z and click on the memory tab (not SPD).

It should say 400MHz. This is doubled to 800MHz as it's Double Data Rate.

I win...3gb unmatched/ unbranded PC2-5300 (333mhz according to CPU-z) I get 7.3.

The WEI is aload of balls though, easily max out all of them apart from the HDD. A normal 7200rpm HDD is 5.9, a 10krpm raptor is 6.6 (or there abouts) and SSD's top out at about 7.3.
On the other hand, some Gskill ripjawsx 1600 hits 7.9 and theres loads of high spec'ed RAM out there, just to show how off it is.
What does microsoft have that hits 7.9 that we dont?

Thanks, looking at CPU-Z now & it says the DRAM Frequency is 400.0 mhz?! It doesnt seem to have any adverse effects on any games..BFBC2 runs all maxed out no problem, tho the only indication I have that it seems stretched is the CPU desktop widget that has it @ 95% + during gaming..

400MHz is correct.

As I said this is doubled to 800MHz as it's Double Data Rate RAM.

Could you elaborate? 4 slots for 4 sticks of ram....im guessing the order of those sticks is important?

FYI I had 4gb originally, then ordered another 4gb (stupidly thinking it would boost the performance) and saw no improvement whatsoever.. Time to ££ in on the extra 4 gb i bought for no reason me thinks..

If your have all the slots filled then it dont matter, so ignore.

Its usually the same colour slots, your manual will tell you which to fill to achieve dual channel operation.
