Windows fails to start up

im on windows 10. Have just had to replace CPU cooler fan as the previous ones mount broke and it allowed the CPU to overheat and auto shut-down.

Computer will start fine in safe mode though, so reasonably sure it hasn't borked anything, and my problem is caused by the sudden unexpected shutdown.

I have tried a system restore, to no avail. I've given all cards and plugs a press to make sure they haven't worked loose.

Still, on a normal start up, computer stays on the black screen with blue windows logo and spinning circle for ever.

Any suggestions for what else I should try?

Crashing out of Windows 10 a few times as it begins to load (by pressing reset) should cause startup repair to kick in.

Indeed it did, but it didn't work.

Problem got progressively worse to the point where it would automatically try to restore each timer, and even fail to initiate that properly.

I suspect now that random issues I have been having for some time were early symptoms of the mobo starting to fail. I have brought forward slightly my plans to get a new computer, and I will salvage from this one parts I can use or sell.
