Is it possible to run games designed for windows in linux? If i use something like Wine will they work or is it better just to dual boot?

enitrely depends on thew game, put it this way crysis isnt going to work :)

valve games run really well.

Ultimately its easier & produces better results if u simply dual boot.

Cheers :( was hopeing id never really have to use Windows again. Oh well i suppose that its not to bad if all i see of it is the boot screen and games folder

i dual boot as i still play tf2, lf4 bf 2142 et5c etc.... i tried doing what your doing, but all the wasted hours just aint worth the effort. IMO anyway.

by all means try it, wine-hq i think is the site

a lot depends on the games, css runs well on linux, then theres games like quake wars which has a native linux installer.

what game do you play?

anything and everything really but epically cod4, cod5, fallout3 and farcry2 . Just installed Linux recently and really missing my gameing but I no realize how bad Windows was and was wondering whether it was possible to install the games and then wipe my windows hard drive.

your defo best dual booting with that games line up. I'm in the same boat, I still like my games, although not as much as I used too :p

I dual boot on my main PC, even the older games like Quake 4 seem to just run better under XP than Linux even after installing the Linux variant. It is infinately easier this way.

I am on a triple boot at the moment though since Fallout 3 seems to need a clean install of XP to not crash.

Personally I hate dual booting. It works well, but I prefer to keep my O/S seperate. I have my O/S drives in removable caddies and just switch them around depending on what I want to do.

I understand though that Wine is vastly improved over older versions. Indeed the web site details some very good, modern games which run flawlessly under Wine.

I am planning on using playonlinux it uses wine as its backend but allows for a graphical interface for installing and uninstalling. Currently supports quite a lot of games already and on their website there are guides on how to install other games.

My ultimate plan is to try and get fallout 3 working on my ubuntu. :)

lol good luck, let us know how you get on!

Yeh, damn dual boot - why do people need to do closed source, sucks so hard. Just distrobute it with a look but dont copy licence or something.

I only use Windows for WoW these days. Everythign else is on Ubuntu. Im happy with it that way to be honest :D

I got it working under Wine, but it went wierd once and my UI got screwed somehow, resulting in me having to create it from scratch.
