Hi all,
Take one 5 year old system which has been functioning absolutely flawlessly with Windows 2000 for years. Upgrade it to Windows XP. Uh oh...
Did a clean install this evening including a formatting of the C drive.
Installed Windows XP. All up and running, fine and dandy. Except for one rather terminal problem. Every time you insert a CD into the CD drive, the system completely locks up, yet continues to access the CD drive at varying speeds (I can hear it spinning up and down).
Removing the CD and waiting 10 seconds or so restores use of the PC. Whilst the CD is being accessed, nothing works. Mouse is frozen, numlock on keyboard wont go on or off if you press numlock, you can't use Ctrl+Alt+del, etc etc.
And then when you've had control restored, it acts a bit bizarrely. Double clicking My Computer, for example, no longer brings up the My Computer window. It brings up the Properties box for My Computer.
Restarting Windows makes the system work perfectly again, until the next time you insert a CD.
Any ideas? Prior to the XP Upgrade it was working absolutely perfectly. And of course, it had to use the CD drive to install XP...
XP2000+, NForce2 Shuttle SN45G2, 768Mb Ram, LG 52x MAX CDRom drive..
Thanks guys
