Windows HDD error message vs Samsung diagnostic tool

Bit confused... About once a day, I get a warning from Windows that "windows detected a hard drive problem" It's a pretty new 1tb Spinpoint.

So, I downloaded Samsung's own diagnostic tool and apart from the tool itself seeming pretty unstable, it's come back with a completely clean bill of health- no SMART errors, good surface scan result, etc etc.

So... Feel kind of stuck in the middle. I guess if I RMA the drive they'll say it tests out fine. But can I trust the diagnostic tool? Wondering if it's an intermittant fault that might not show up on the testing...

Any advice much appreciated. Apart from "back it up"- first thing I did ;)

Ah har. Good advice, thank you- not thinking too clearly on this one, I'm slightly freaked ;)

"Windows Disk Diagnostic detected a S.M.A.R.T. fault on disk SAMSUNG HD105SI ATA Device (volumes C:\;D:\). This disk might fail; back up your computer now. All data on the hard disk, including files, documents, pictures, programs, and settings might be lost if your hard disk fails. To determine if the hard disk needs to be repaired or replaced, contact the manufacturer of your computer. If you can't back up (for example, you have no CDs or other backup media), you should shut down your computer and restart when you have backup media available. In the meantime, do not save any critical files to this disk."

also

"The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent."

Well that sounds like bad juju doesn't it. I can rule out overheating for sure, and overall power shortage for probable, but I'll try swapping for a known-good SATA cable and power cable before I do anything more drastic I think
