Windows heating up / testing my GPU?

Bit of an annoyance here.

I've got Windows 7 64-bit and ever so often (~3 weeks) I'll be doing something menial (e.g. browsing the web) when Windows changes the colour scheme to basic and the GPU temp goes up and the fans speed up. After about a minute everything goes back to normal.

I tried looking this up a while ago, but I couldn't find a decent answer, and just forgot about it. I think it's to do with Windows testing the capabilities of the GPU for the Windows Performance Index thing. Not sure though.

Can anyone tell what's happening and how I can fix it?

It is set as a task the below link tells you how to stop it.

Whats your GPU? Might be worth getting the latest update.

Thanks Crowort. I reckon that's it as it's last run time was 1:00 am last night which is around the same time I noticed the GPU fans speeding up.

WEI runs weekly automatically. You'll see it listed in the Task Scheduler. Probably the culprit you are looking for.
