I'm thinking of dipping my hands into home networking and outfitting my old PC with WHS. I was hoping someone who was involved in the beta program could answer a few questions...

1. If the WHS box is wired to the router via mbit or gbit cabling, will i get reasonable transfer rates over a wirelessG connection? I'm particularly interested in streaming music and non HD media to no more than 1-2 machines at a time.

2. The minimum reqs are pretty low, I have an old Athlon box with 2000+ 512 RAM lying around and was hoping it would be enough, maybe if i upped the memory to 1gig?

3. Would i be better off building a new low power PC using a mobile processor?

Many thanks gents :)

You'll be fine as long as you have a reasonable signal strength, the data rates are a lot lower than you'd think.

That's fine, I've got a Windows 2003 box on about that and it runs fine.

Depends if you're worried about the electricity bill. I wouldn't bother personally.
