windows install & hard drive ?

Hi All I have a new SATA II Seagate drive and will be putting windows Vista on it ,do i just put the disc in the dvd drive and follow the screens ? do i have to format ,if so how ? i,m alittle out of touch on this ,as when i last did this it was 1999 ... :confused:

Vista will prompt you, it will offer you the chance to format the hard drive also. You may need to set it to boot from the optical drive in the bios but it ought to be very simple.

thanks for that ,don,t want to seem thick ,but what is an optical drive ? :confused:

your cd/dvd drive that the disc is in
