Ok so after I overclocked my cpu my system wouldn't boot back into windows and would just keep posting over and over again. So i tried re-installing windows and now after it installs and says it has to restart it gives me the option to install windows again! It doesn't give me the option to continue with the install. What would the reason for this be? Dead motherboard or HDD? Or...

if it didnt restart windows after overclocking it will be down to a failed oc setting rather than anything to do with windows, what you needed to do was power off pc and pop out the motherboard cmos battery for 30mins,then put back in and powerup into bios then load optimised defaults

just format the hdd again and reinstall, sometimes it skips the hdd and boots from dvd drive instead of booting from hdd to complete the windows install

I did try resetting the cmos with the jumper but i haven't took out the battery, i reset the bios a few times and tried to set it back to stock settings. I re-tried installing windows again and if it doesn't work i will re-try clearing the cmos

you havent left cd / usb key with windows installation files on plugged in while its restarting so it is booting straight into windows installation rather than restarting and completing the installation?

Should mention when it restarts it no longer needs the installation files to complete the rest of the installation. so all installation media can be removed.

I left the usb plugged in while it was restarting, but when it restarted it was on the completing installation step. Should i have removed the usb?

I think Dunn has nailed it. You are in a boot loop because it is booting from the USB over and over. Had you done the install via DVD the machine asks you to press a key to boot from DVD, had you not pressed a key it would move on to the next device in the boot order which is hopefully your HDD. Make sure your HDD is on the boot list in the BIOS

Are you installing to a SSD? It's also worth checking that ACHI was enabled in the BIOS under the sata settings too

AHHHHH! Thanks guys. I had set it to keep on booting from the usb and didn't change it back to boot from the HDD.

honosuseri, it wasn't a SSD. But that was the problem. Can't believe i didn't think of that

Where do you have the usb stick plugged into, a hub of some type?

I have had the same issue if it's in a hub, needs to be in the usb that are on the motherboard or at least of a header on the motherboard like a case usb input.

It's just that it's wise to leave any extra storage drives disconnected when installing to a SSD. You can hook the storage drives up once the OS is loaded, just for future reference.

It was an easy mistake to make, we all have off days. Did you check that ACHI was enabled? It probably is by default but worth checking, if not enable and do the install again before going any futher

I will remember that when I upgrade to a SSD thanks. I haven't checked if it's in ACHI yet but i haven't ran into any problems so far

Edit: Yup, it's in ACHI
