Is there a way to find out when Windows XP Home was installed?

Just wondering as I’m getting a new HDD delivered tomorrow and planning to use the same COA. I read somewhere you can use again after 120 days (4 months?).

Thanks.

I found a file called "WPA.bak" folders in windows/system32 which a friend told me to look for and it has a date of According to the file, it says 12 September 2007, 13:32:08. So I guess that should be the date I installed or activated windows?

Just out of interest, is there a way to recover the installation code I used?

There is simply no need to look at this. You can reactivate 2 or 202 days after you first installed.

As Burnsy has said, as long as you are not changing the motherboard of the computer from when you first installed the operating system you can reinstall at any time with the same product key. Therefore, the product key is 'tied' to that motherboard.

In any case, to get the install date (at least on XP) run "systeminfo" from the command line (Start -> Run -> cmd). What you're looking for is "Original Install Date".
