I have a pc that is run win XP and comes up with the following when trying to connect to a Netgear DGN2200. the network card is working fine according to device manager and I have disabled and re enabled it. Also made sure Zero Wireless config is started.

The pc picks up the SSID but just will not connect I cannot ping the router from the pc either. Having reset the router and yet still the issue remains I am at a loss as to what the problem is. Could someone on here advise a way forward?

One other note we have changed the router to this from an old Linksys due to the fact it was WEP enabled everything worked fine then and this is the first time this computer has attempted to connect to the new router.

Well you certainly wouldn't be able to ping the router from the pc if it can't connect as it won't have an IP address. (I'm assuming your router is a DHCP).
What kind of encryption are you using to connect wirelessly?

Does it get to the point where it asks for the WEP key? I remember Windows Xp used to enable Wireless IEEE 802.1x authentication for the wireless network, which would stop the PC connecting. You need to make sure this is unchecked. Should be able to find it when you manage wireless connections and click on your SSID -> Authentication Tab

First things first you will need to remove the network from preffered networks and reconnect it.

If this is being controlled by windows you will find it in control panel > network connections > then in the properties of the device. in vista and 7 it is in network and sharing centre.

Option 2 - System > Hardware > Device manager.... expand out networks and select the wireless device. right click and select uninstall (do not check the box) and select ok. Right click on your pc name at the top and select "scan for hardware changes"... It will reinstall the network adapter and clear out the preferred network cache allowing you to reconnect to the new router.

Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for the info this is the issue however it has now started to happen to 2 of the 3 wireless laptops/computers in the house - I'm afraid I cant quite figure out exactly what you mean re the last sentence the only option I seem to have is either let Win manage my wireless connection or then tabs which relate to letting other pcs share my connection etc?

If I disable let windows manage my connection then it cannot find any wireless networks at all,

Thanks for the info tried this and the network card was re installed by windows however it seems the problem as in my previous post is the fact that I am asked for the wep key WPA and even when it is put on the pc/laptops cannot connect windows just says trying to connect and eventually comes up with unable to connect I am at a loss as to how to resolve

What router are you using? Also did you manually set the Authentiacation method and password?

On further checking Wireless IEEE 802 is greyed out and unchecked so it would seem that from your post that is not causing the issue ? To be honest all this has started since the network was taken over by Talk Talk used to be Pipex customer and we have an outstanding ticket with them due to poor BB connection before that as mentioned we changed the router to the Netgear as it was wireless N and WPA as opposed to our old router which was a standard WEP
Do you think that the router itself could be to blame, I have had a look around the netgear support forums but cannot find anything to match. BTW my sons XBOX connects seamless to the router

Sorry dude missed the router. Depends some older wifi cards do not fully support the WPA / WPA2 standard, I would change it to wep and see what happens... Do the devices connect if you turn off wireless security?

All sorted looks like the Wireless cards dont like WPA set router back to WEP and connected fine, looks like the Wifi cards will have to be updated
:D
