Error 80072ee2 or 80072efd: You cannot sign in to Windows Live Messenger
You may not be able to sign in because of problems with your firewall (A security feature designed to help protect a computer from unauthorized external access. It can be hardware, software, or both.) or proxy settings. Visit another website to confirm that you're connected to the Internet. If you are connected, check your firewall settings and adjust your proxy settings:

What version are you using as i cant find the exact error code.

Looks like its a corrupt registry.

im using the latest version and its definately the error code in my original post, i have reinstalled and re-done the registry for WLM (if re-done makes any sense lol) and it just stopped working i didnt change anything

800706be is a registry error code for an OS service that is not specific to WLM.
It just that WLM needs that service as well as some other programs.

I just had the same error. I used a trick I had previously used for another Messenger error and I solved my problem. I simply deleted my contacts cache and it worked just fine.

To do so:

Click Start, type "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts" then delete all files in the folder

I know it's an old thread but when I googled this issue this was one of the first sites I saw. So I figured why not join and hopefully help someone out along the way.
