Windows Media Player 11 Codecs

Will WMP 11 play mov files or do I have to get a codec for it?

Quicktime Alternative will give you the codecs required for Quicktime Movies - without all the unecessary quicktime crap.

It depends what's inside the MOV container, but I'm pretty sure WMP can't handle any form of MOV out of the box. You'll need QuickTime for that.

the full version also includes media player classic, its a much better video player than WMP

-this also lets you view apple trailers in browsers, without the rest of the crap quicktime installs, as per csmager

Thanks for that, does media player classic allow you to queue files like wmp?

yeah, you can either drag a load into it at once, or press CTRL + 7 to get the playlist

if you install ffdshow (from that same webstite)

then you'll be able to play any video type in MPC (will need real alternative for realmedia files)

I just installed the K-Lite Codec pack from here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm (The full version includes pretty much any codec you're likely to need including Media Player Classic)

Was previously using Real Alternative with the Defiler codec pack.

And for audio, foobar2000 http://www.foobar2000.org/ is a good choice, with a range of really good plug-ins too.

personally i avoid codec packs, i go with:
-ffdshow
-coreavc/purevideo (not free)
-qt/rp alternative
-ac3filter

..and that handles pretty much everything i throw at it.
