Windows Moblie 7 in depth preview

I can't see it working. Android has the value and enthusiast smartphone market sewn up, WinPhone7 doesn't have the features to compete there ... which puts it squarely in competition with the iPhone as an easy to use phone with good music facilities.
If they can get the price right to make up for the lack of apps they have a shot, but the minimum hardware requirements are going to make it difficult.
What they need to do is take a real loss-leading approach like they did to break into the Games Console market - subsidise the phone costs to suit £20/month contracts and throw in a years free Zune Pass to give the platform the time and consumer base it needs to get developer support in the App store.

My money is on them having too much pride to realise that at the moment they aught to be pricing against Symbian featurephones like the 5800, and pricing themselves out of the market like they did with the Kin.

Is there really no cut/paste in winmo 7? I read somewhere that they weren't including it as it's not needed and numbers, etc will be hotlinked so you can just click on them.

The problem is that I use cut/paste and awful lot on my iphone! I don't need it to cut and paste numbers anyway. The other day, for example, I had an email with a Citylink tracking number. I simply cut/paste it from an email into the city link website. Same goes for jokes. I read a joke site now and again and like to nick them and put them in text messages to people, or even cut bits out of text messages to send to others, etc. Cut/Paste missing on a smartphone is a major thing to be honest!

it looks good and response very well however lack of customization on the home screen and no cut paste or 3rd party multi tasking is stupid in this day and age (could have been a pretty strong selling point as its competing with iOS)

the only thing which wp7 can do is use xbox live and really REALLY push game intergration

The layout on the home screen I find really frustrating. Hate how the squares are slightly off center

Will be interesting to see more customization options (Ie. background, square colours)

I think Windows Mobile 7 has potential but it is very late coming to the party, Apple and Android have had all the bread sticks and dips, feasted on the sausage rolls and chicken legs and are now eyeing the trifles and profiteroles :) , by the time MS get there there might be some cold garlic bread left over. Seriously, if MS had of launched this 6 months ago, it would have been competitive, but I think Apple and Android are surging ahead.
