http://arstechnica.com/journals/mic...lies-to-xp-users-and-they-start-to-love-vista

The company told these users that they were using a new version of Windows, codenamed "Mojave." When asked about their experience with using Mojave, over 90 percent said they were impressed with what they saw. Then Microsoft told them they had been using Vista all along.

Do you dislike Vista because of press reviews? Forum members who dislike Vista? Or do you genuinely think XP is better than Vista?

This would have sounded better if the 'trials' were run by a company not affiliated with Microsoft in any way . . Simply because everyone will be crying OMG HAX at the news . . .

Personally, I use Vista x64 and love it.

Even if it was Apple that did the trials, fanbois would cry and say Apple had been paid of.

i dont care if 100% said it was better than sex, drugs, music, food, and smokes combined, because why would i even listen to the opinions of people who cant tell what vista looks like.

sure there are people who dont know what they are talking about on both sides, some of these people are lucky and say the correct thing because really its a 50% chance..

i'll say it again

Vista IS slower than XP in most programs and ALL GAMES!!!! (my 8800GT on xp destroys an 4850 on vista, by (friend has same settings and lower res and he gets 30FPS, i get 60-100)
Vista Has poor driver support and huge glitches

the layout is for the general public ( general public = morons), more on this point, i believe they try to make things simplictic, but infact they make it overly complicated?? i dont want that rubbish layout, took me 2 years to get used to XP (because xp was overly simplified and "nooby")

id rather they make Vista professional (for overclockers and enthusiasts, ie none of this menu system that is overly simplified, everythign is decided with pure logic.)

then vista idiot edition for 95% of the world because it looks nice and has fancy bars so people look at it all day and only browse the internet

and yes people dont like change, but its because things always change to something rubbish and we have to deal with it because there is nothing we can do... apart from being ********** ***** ******** off

Haha stop frothing at the mouth.

Vista is not slower in "ALL GAMES" as proven by benchmarks. And any games Vista is slower in, its by 1 or 2 frames. Hardly something to write home about.

It doesn't have poor driver support or huge glitches.

If it took you two years to get used to a simplified layout maybe you're the n00b?

People do like change. Ask black people alive before the 1970s.

Google News 'Windows Mojave'...You'll find link after link talking about it. It would appear to be the case that the users were just shown a promotional video. They didn't really test it out!

Just had a read.

I think this might be down to bad marketing by Microsoft rather than negative reviews. If these users didn't already know about the features shown in the video, then Microsoft really need to do more to get the message across.

Maybe tutorial videos of the OS, like Apple do or a guided tour on first boot.

Website has gone live now. Going to watch some of the videos.

Microsofts view on the site as well.

It just doesn't make sense to me. To be fair I suppose this type of marketing isn't aimed at anyone here at all.

However, it's flawed. One of the women in the interviews says that she's heard a lot of bad about it [Vista] from her husband and the press. I don't know, but maybe her husband isn't just opening an explorer window or playing a song in Windows Media Player and basing that as his whole opinion on the operating system.

As she said herself, maybe its the user that's the problem not the OS.

The people who spent hours writing articles, testing the software and creating their damning verdict of the operating system when it launched, are people who wanted and expected more from the product that was proclaiming to be 'Wow'. They're also the people (techies) who know a lot more about the operating system than the average user, they're looking out for things that the day to day user will never experience.

This means they find more problems and more things wrong, of course, but a lot just exposed how under baked the product was as a whole.

There's a lot intelligent people on here, who know a lot more about the OS than me, like NathanE for example and he's posted in great detail before about the advantages of Vista over XP. Sure's there's problems and things that could be done better, but that's what Windows 7 will be. No one is ever going to make the perfect OS.

This means they find more problems and more things wrong, of course, but a lot just exposed how under baked the product was as a whole.

What does "but a lot just exposed how under baked the product was as a whole". I can only guess you think it was released too soon of there's not enough features?

You simply can't just say something is going to be Wow and have it come out and be like Vista was on launch - it's heavily embarrassing and the company has paid a high price for it. So long as they make that a lesson they should be fine but do it again and they're genuinely in big trouble, in my opinion.

'It's really good, the press were wrong' is the wrong vibe to be giving off. It's pretty arrogant as well. The press in the majority weren't wrong. 'We made some mistakes and we've fixed them now' is more like how it should be - but heaven forbid a huge company would be honest.

Haven't they been saying that all along? Every OS has teething problems at lauch, just like Tiger and Leopard.

Of course people know that bad reviews are more interesting to read and get more hits on the technology websites - but Microsoft, with Vista, simply made that much too easy in my opinion.

Apple have surprised me with their openness about MobileMe's failings but it came too late for many people as well.

When you start losing peoples work and emails, I think you need to be open about it.
