Made a recording in fraps, recorded as a 3.9Gb .avi file
Plays fine in media player classic and windows media player.

try to load it in movie maker and get the following:

The file C:\Fraps\1.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

File is nothing special, just a normal avi output from fraps at 29.9fps

Any ideas?

instead of movie maker, use virtualdub, then save it as xvid at 75-80% quality

then manage it with movie maker if you want effects etc

Same error from VDub.

Seems to suggest it wants windows codecs not player codecs.
Whats the name of that program again that you drag and drop video files into and it tells you codec/compression and other details?

Tried that shark codec still no joy :/

Something has changed in newer Fraps or DIVX (its all over Google).

You will not save it as a DIVX using VDub but can do so as XVID (if you have Codecs installed).

Just use WMM and make a WMV if its simply to show a peep your Gaming and they are going to view it on a PC.
