Hey.

Today I put in two hard drives from my friends computer into my old one (since I was selling it to him). He has windows 7 already on there. I actually booted up into it fine.

I was in the process of removing old drivers and replacing with the new however, I noticed the CPU was steadily getting hot. I opened it up and saw that the fan was moving, but despite this the tempeture was rapidly increasing and when I saw it at 70C I closed all installers and shut down.

When I was using my old hard drive the tempetures where about 40C idle so I am guessing it has something to do with Windows. Should I just wipe it? Or is there anyway to save the current windows install?

Heatsink been knocked? Could be the software still thinking its the old CPU and miss reading the temperature.

I've just reformatted the whole PC. Temps are slightly lower now, but not great. Not really sure what the problem is... Airflow is the same as before, and only thing that has changed is a extra drive has been put in (is is set to the bottom tray, out of the way). Other than that, noting else has changed so really it should be the same as before?:S

Where (or, when) are you getting your 40C baseline from? I mean, assuming you're in the UK the ambient temperature must be way higher than normal considering the weather at the moment and it will show in the CPU thermals.
