Hi all,

I have a amd sempron am2 1.8ghz processor. I overclocked it to 3 ghz, temperature not a problem but after 2.7ghz windows wont load although the temperature is really low, any advice?

Could it be my ram? Its kingston but i dont know how to set that up at all, i tried with the vcore upto 1.55v but winodws just wont load.

Shr3k

p.s sorry for posting again but all my new questions where at the bottom of the previous post and this may be useful to other people.

Anyone this is winding me up now, i mean the chip can see 3.5ghz on the stock cooler before the temps are worrying but windows is the problem.... Also i havn't set *** memory up yet so obviously i'm going to run into problems there

Sorry, I dont quite follow you. You say you overclocked it to 3 ghz with no temp. problems. How did you read the temps if you couldnt boot into Windows? BIOS?

Its just obviously not stable above 2.7GHz on the voltages you have set. Just because a CPU can POST at a certain speed doesn't mean it can run at that speed in Windows, or even get INTO Windows.

Temperature is also not the deciding factor in whether or not a CPU can overclock further or not, voltage is generally the cause, however a side effect of more voltage is more heat (and the possbility of electro-migration, but thats a whole other thread).

What voltages have you set for everything, Chipset? CPU? RAM?
What speed is your RAM rated to, and what speed divider do you have set?

Well ive only touched the cpu, i slakened the ram to 15, 5, 5, 5 and i put the cpu to 1.45v. At 2.7ghz it will enter windows after that it wont. I can however boot into linux at 3.4ghz and test it and it is still stable! Another .2ghz and it will be a 100% overclock, just windows :(

Perhaps Windows is just using Processor extensions that Linux doesn't and these processor extensions are not liking the overclock. Certain circuitry in processors begin to get timing issues when running too far above their designed speed, kinda like lag, but properly defined as propogation delay.
