I am doing a fresh install of vista 64bit, what is the best way of partioning the HDD. I have got

1X1TB & 1X500gig for storage
1X500gig for Windows.

What arrangement do you folks recommend for the install.?

Depends how many games you normally have installed.
I personally have a 640 gb drive and i use 150 gb for windows / games / apps
the remaining partition is for data.

I'd go with whichever is the fastest hard drive of those 3 you have for windows and create a 150-200gb partition rest of drives i'd have for data storage etc and not partition at all.

Only reason to partition the OS drive is to speed up defrag and reformats.
Having a really low partition just for windows with games and apps on the other partition on same drive is no benefit at all imo because if you need to reformat the OS all your games and apps will need all the registrys redoing and is a pain.
If you only ever have like 5 games on your pc at a time could maybe even do 100gb partition.

Not all. Around two thirds of my games/apps happily reside on D: and don't need a reinstall after reformating - they either don't rely on registry settings or other components, or they'll recreate them automatically. I'd say it's still well worthwhile.
