Possibly looking to switch from a Samsung S3 to something else, Android has been fine with plenty apps for choosing but I do get the feeling that we are all beta testers when it comes to the OS :) So swithering moving to windows OS, did think about iOS but current screen size is small and expensive! Is Windows mature enough now ? I only use a small number of apps currently no need for much more. Worth jumping too ?

Once the 8.1 update is on all handsets with the UK version of Cortana you should be very happy. You still do have to check and see if the small amount of apps you so use are there, or at least good other alternatives.

Saying that even the first 8.1 update is arriving any day as well, MS seem to be moving a lot faster witht the updates for it now.

I have gone from the s3 to a lumia 930. very happy. For the foreseeable future I will stick with windows

I came from iOS to the Lumia 930 and I must say I am very happy, yeah the appstore isnt as great but the whole OS works really well.

had a wee swatch at the app store for windows and strava is the only app thats not on it, however thats not a deal breaker as I only use it to look at my rides and comment on other etc. Have a garmin for logging. What is battery life like on these windows phones , contrary to what folk do manage to get out of an S3, even flashing custom ROMs battery is poor. So good battery life is a must. Also with I assume windows 9 round the corner, getting that as an upgrade is not a sure thing??

better battery life than the s3 for me, and it has not settled down yet. for my use nearly twice as long as the s3

I moved to Windows os with a Nokia 1520 and love it. It's very well spec'd, massive screen, easy to use navigation and well priced. Only down side is the lack of official apps, however there are a lot of unofficial apps in their place. Hoping over time this will change as more people adopt the Windows os.

S3 has pants battery life to be honest, the oled tech at the time was not up to scratch, even the S4 was meh, given that the S5 gets double the battery life.

Most modern smartphones now are pretty awesome, the S800 chipset that comes on WP is great, and the S801 is even better that is on Android.

Anandtech has not reviewed the L930 yet, and I don't trust anyone else. Looking at the L630 review battery life is behind the Moto G but the Moto G has a bigger battery, so its about par.

To be honest I don't see any battery life issues, and if it has the apps you need you should be happy, 8.1 is a huge update too. There is rumours of a new WP flagship but I don't expect much till late this year, the Mclaren was recently killed.

HTC is also having an event on the 17th of August which might me a M8 styled WP which could be nice.

Also I would be slightly worried about Windows 9 update, given its coming sometime in 2015, and MSFT hasn't had the best track record, e.g. no update for winmob to wp7, promised support for wp8 and that fell through. There is much more riding on it this time, and I give if they didn't offer a real upgrade path it would call RIP, so I'm fairly confident, but still a little worried, either way I wouldn't base my buying decision on a future update that I have little clue of what it includes.

More details on the rumour HTC WP device.

The iPhone 6 will be out in December (available in Sept), which will have a far larger screen. You should at least consider it.
