OK here goes...

I installed something in windows that ****** up windows completely, cant boot at all. So i dug out a very old knoppix disc (3.9 i think) i had, in order to removed the offending program from my drive. However.....

I can't seem to delete the folder from the disk, but then this isn't surprising as i haven't a clue how linux or KDE works (no really...not a clue). The drive is readable (FAT32) but i cant change anything on it. I just have to delete 1 folder. What do i do?

i'm currently sitting in KDE at 640x480 at 60hz slowly being blinded by my moniter trying to fix this. Help!

sorry, just rolled out of bead with a fuzzy head so i'm not at full speed yet.
but my guess is that the drive/partition is mounted read-only and therefore you can't delete from it.

there's a command to show you how all the partitions are mounted (which will confirm or scotch this theory) and then it's a simple case of unmounting the drive and remounting it read-writeable.

like i say, sorry, fuzzy head, can't remember theexact commands and syntax, but i'm sure someone else will be along to fill in the blanks shortly.

Open a terminal and type "mount". Think that's what MrWhippy means? If it is indeed mounted read only it will say (r ...) in brackets (as opposed to (rw ...). You will then need to remount it in read write mode, not sure how to do this but Google should help. (Still new to Linux myself).

Hope this helps, null :)

Thanks all for the help. I got it sorted. It was available as an option on rightclicking the drive in KDE. I assume it automatically dismounts and remounts the drive.

It worked anyway, and now i am happily back in windows XP :)

60Hz and a hangover do not go well together.
