If this is a retail version and it is only installed on one pc you will be able to activate. If this is an OEM version which came with this pc and it is only installed on this machine, then you can reactivate. It's via a free phone number and simply and quick. I do it several times a day sometimes.

ye,i have done it over the phone numerous amount of times, but now its telling me that its been used to many times,im the only person who has access to this CD and its only on 1 machine.

as far as im aware they shouldn't / don't limit the amount of activations you're allowed, just ask to speak to a manager + say XPs been out for years and you regularly update your system so why shouldn't you be able to continue using the same xp license?

ye,i have tried using the internet way,and phoned up to enter all the digits,it didnt work and they put me through to the customer support, they could'nt activate it either :S

is it legit?
what version is it oem or retail?
what did they say?

ye its legit version
its OEM but its only been used 3 times on this pc,the other 2 times ive used it,its worked fine, but now not happening at all.
when i phoned up they asked me to tell them the 6 digits in the blocks, they then read out a different set of numbers to me for me to type in,after i clicked activate i had an error saying 'this version of Microsoft xp has reached its limit, and the activation was unsucessful.

It is really very simple to reactivate. Just dont sound like you are commiting a crime, you are not (or so it seems). Sound a little bored if anything, as I do usually. I have to look after a lot of work PCs and often have to reinstall when a hard drive dies or similar.

I think he's pointing out he has a new xp disk for his new system but it isn't activating, But his old xp disk he was able to activate on many systems.

Anyway providing it is a oem disk & only used on that board i see no reason why they wouldn't activate it again. Ring them up again & have a whine :)
