windows product key

Right, firstly we need to establish whether MS should activate your copy of Windows, then you can either get MS to properly activate your product or you'll have to buy a new copy of Windows (you can't buy product keys separetly).

So, have you used that copy of Windows on any PC other then what you have currently?

Have you replaced the motherboard?

He's already said he's activate it on many systems and says to be shh about it. So he deff needs a new cd.

He said that about a previous copy, not his current one.

ye its legit version
its OEM but its only been used 3 times on this pc,the other 2 times ive used it,its worked fine, but now not happening at all.
when i phoned up they asked me to tell them the 6 digits in the blocks, they then read out a different set of numbers to me for me to type in,after i clicked activate i had an error saying 'this version of Microsoft xp has reached its limit, and the activation was unsucessful.

Hello MiNxYyY, it would seem that you are just basically wanting to reactivate your copy of Windows XP on the machine that it was originally installed on because you had just reinstalled Windows XP which is absolutely fine.

Ring up Microsoft again and just tell them that I had to reinstall Windows XP because I was having problems with me existing installation and I would just like to reactivate my copy of Windows. If the first Microsoft agent won't activate it for you for whatever reason, ring them up again and again and again until they do activate it for you. Now, if they won't, which will compensate for one of the times that you have installed your other Windows OEM license on anything but the original machine, go out a purchase a new copy of Windows. :p

Though, I would suggest keeping how many times you have installed one of your Windows XP OEM license's on different machines to yourself. :)

From what I gather from reading this thread or certainly from the two above quotes, is that MiNxYyY wants to reactivate his copy of Windows because he had just reinstalled Windows XP on the exact same machine.

Then further down, MiNxYyY is talking about a second license:

i had a OEM version before this copy wich i used numerous amount of times, mostly on a different pc :S

Which he obviously shouldn't be doing.

Or have I completely lost the plot? :p
