Windows recall

Already been discussed in the massive Windows 11 thread:

I'm hoping it will be removable, either with MSMG's ToolKit in the future or with PowerShell. I'd prefer using the ToolKit to remove it, so it won't be on my system at the time of installation.

M$ is no longer the company it once was unfortunately.

They have the wrong people making big decisions who are out of touch with their customer base and driven by greed.

I shall be staying on Windows 10 until I decide what flavour of Linux to install.

Windows 11 has been a flop for the most part and now they are offering an ‘opt in’ for spyware after the backlash they experienced (see comment above).

Bill Gates needs to whip their @ss :D

How long does that take? Mint is good.
Until around October 2025. at least for me :p

Mint looks good though (along with all the compatibility stuff for games - is it still called proton?), that's definitely be where I'd start for replacing windows on my main PC. (I'd also be tempted to have a fiddle with Arch, fully expecting it to take time to get it how I want).

I've used Linux occasionally, though mainly for systems I didn't have to interact with much (mining, servers) or a laptop that was purely used to watch youtube, because it was so old that it couldn't play back video in windows :D

I'm also tied to M$ for work stuff (IT)

Not used windows 10 in long time
But doesn't it have a similar thing with timeline?
From what I'm aware, timeline just shows you what you were doing, e.g. what apps and files you were working on, it doesn't take screenshots every second or two and then send it all to Microsoft for their future AI features and data sales.

Only came across Recall recently, but really who in their right mind in the Microsoft leadership though this would ever be a good idea?

A clever, erm "AI powered™", rootkit and keylogger?

Not looking at Insider Builds, I wonder if the Enterprise Edition was going to come with this disabled - even before the backlash? If yes, well then this sounds like a major attempt to grab data for Bing and Edge etc. If not? Well, surely Microsoft collectively could not be this stupid unless 99% of their employees are yes-persons.

Give it 5 (or maybe as little as 3) or so years and it'll be included in Windows and no one will raise an eyebrow. Essentially the boiled frog effect.

I've always had an interest from a work POV in Unix/Linux but it is only recently I've started using it for games on my home machine, and I've been massively impressed.

NB. Fwiw I use Pop!_OS, and it's rock solid. Other flavours are available:)

I don't mind the feature itself, I just don't have a need for it at least for my daily use and don't want it running on my PC so depends what the implementation is like. AFAIK it currently needs additional hardware support to operate [fully] anyhow. Unfortunately though MS have a bad track record these days of making these features truly optional and able to take control over them as needed.
