Just installed my new Western Digital 36.7GB 10kRPM drive, but Im getting that little "Safely remove hardware" icon in my bar, you know the one that pops up when you connect a USB storage devise, click it says my new drive in the list.

Anyone shed any light on a solution for this?

Thanks.

There isn't a solution as such because it is working as intended, some motherboard manufacturers have enabled this feature so you can hot-swap the drive(although not if it is a boot drive).

There isn't anything to worry about so you can ignore it or hide it if you set it so only the most recently used icons appear in the taskbar beside the clock.

oh. fair enough.

I have currently got windows running off it, so its booting from it. Should the icon still be there?

Yes it should still be there because of the implementation but it should make it impossible to remove the drive as it shouldn't be possible to power it down I believe.
