hiya, ive recently bought an ati 5770 and have just setup a hdmi cable, when trying the output to my TV the windows sounds work fine but everything else such as games, music, youtube etc dont output anything at all

i have had a look through settings and cant seem to find anything to enable other applications, i know the hdmi cable is sending the sound because windows sounds come out of the TV fine but when i run crysis 2 or media player or even videos from you tube nothing come out of the tv but it still comes out of my pc speakers

any help or advice would be appreciated

Maybe Media Player is set to output to your speakers but you'd expect Crysis 2 and your internet browser to pick whichever is the default audio device.

Normally you just pick the AMD device in Sound devices and it routes all sound to that device, apart from any programs that declare it otherwise.

Disable the sound for your onboard sound or soundcard in the control panel Sound icon. Look at see what playback devices you have & right click disable the ones not needed.

All you have to do is goto

1) Have you HDMI cable plugged in

2) Goto Control Panel -> Sound

3) Make a note of which item currently has the green tick in the list.

4) Select "AMD/ATI HDMI Output"

5) Click "Set Default"

Here's an example screenshot of the sound applet I found on the net so you know what it looks like...

That's all you have to do. You do not have to disable the other devices.

If you ever take your rig back to a monitor with normal speakers then go back into that applet above and then set default on whatever item in the list had the green tick next to it in the first place before you changed it to AMD/ATI.

Hi mate yeah that worked a charm:D thanks for that mate i appreciate it , so does this mean everytime i want to play crysis 2 i have to change it so my tv is my primary monitor then change the sound to hdmi everytime i wanna play pc games on my PC or is there a quicker or automated way i coould do it ?

Are you saying you have both a TV and a monitor hooked up and you only switch to the TV for games and then back to a monitor when you're done?

If so then yes, you will need to switch the sound back and forth.

If you only use your TV and no monitor then you only need to make the above change once.

I'm not aware of any programs that can make the switching process any simpler. People have been doing it this manual way for years.

yes i use a monitor and TV, what about if i make the tv a duplicated of my monitor ? would that work ? thing is my Monitor resolution is 1920x1200 and my tv can only do 720p
