I'm sure a few of you have seen the threads about trouble with my first build but..here's one more. :o

Basically when I turn it on the windows starting screen lags and hangs. I'd expect this on maybe my old computer that was 3 years old (though it never happened), but not on my new 2500k with 8gb of ram etc?

I found this video that someone else posted, but the same thing happens basically.. Mine just lags for LONGER:

Also at this point my razer mouse flashes on and off if that makes any difference (the lycosa is fine), and I have the latest drivers and have tried different USB slots for that.

Tempted to just install a fresh version of windows when my new ODD arrives tomorrow...
It works fine when it gets to the login screen however?!

Confusing me :(

I think it only started after installing updates and drivers.

I've had so much trouble with the drivers - still don't have the correct display driver as AMD catalyst seems to hate me...

There's a logged boot option that records all drivers and files loaded so you can have a look for a potential issue if you can't find it easily.

Just hammer F8 when you pass the BIOS part of your boot and select it.

you mean strategically press F8 between the bios screen and the windows loading screen :p

Ok i thought id try system restoring to when id installed no updates/drivers first, and that worked FINE with no lagging or mouse flickering problems.
As soon as i installed the amd 6800 series driver, the Intel onboard graphics driver, some 'intel technology' update and a few random windows updates it now takes ages to start with lagging again..and the flickery mouse
Does it just dislike updates?!
I would just not do any but it has around 90 updates for w7 to do and id rather not have a super outdated version of the OS....

I am so confused.
Just decided to run the windows experience index to check the graphics performance - gets 7.9 in graphics and gaming graphics. I then changed the theme from aero basic to one of the normal preset windows 7 ones and it lags terribly. Like I drag a window and it judders and when I open a window it takes a second or so to appear(lags showing it I see it pop 'into life' in almost slow motion.)

er

Monitors definitely in the gpu bit. It is VGA though not HDMI as my monitors quite old.

and now ive restored it again to the first available date ( that it worked fine at before ) and now it DIDNT fix it! Just after system restoring its laggy and bad..

Thinking just reinstall windows when my optical drive arrives? :/
Maybe check to see if everythings correctly plugged in

If you don't mind a reinstall why not try it now? Seems like a driver issue to me though, so whether a reinstall will help im not sure. But its worth a try if its not too much hassle. (you can install off a USB stick)

Waiting for my my new optical drive I ordered to arrive (will arrive tomorrow).

It took me around 5 tries to install windows as my old optical drive was hopeless - atleast 5 years old. It would just randomly give up after so much of the install, but eventually it managed to last through it..

So yeah i'm thinking just wait for the new disc drive and give it a go.
(I don't have a USB drive that's big enough!)

Get a nice big USB stick :P They aren't expensive and I find them so useful. Not least for installing Windows! (which I end up doing on various PCs a fair bit).

Let us know how you get on anyway.
