Windows Update on 8.1 issues..

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone could help, just bought a new Laptop today for the Mrs (HP) which came with Windows 8.1 installed. Been trying all evening to install updates via windows but to no avail. It finds 66 updates, but it stays at 0% and doesn't appear to download. I've tried the obvious things such as turning off the firewall if that was causing issues etc. I'm not using any additional virus software and I do not get any error codes. Just updated Windows 7 on my main PC without issue. PS I'm on 100mb connection and speed test comes up perfectly fine.

Any ideas? :confused:

Cheers, I suspected it might be that but just concerned that my comp running Win 7 downloaded them fine. Will give it another go tomorrow and report back :)

Have a look in c:\windows\windowsupdate.log you should only need to look at the very last dozen lines or so, any problems or errors should be pretty obvious.

Alternatively, if your comfortable with opening a DOS box, there are a few commands to test, and if necessary repair the Windows servicing stack.

Cheers, leaving it on for now whilst I go to bed if its not changed by the morning I will take a look at this :) Failing that I may try a restore if that fixes the issue, we haven't installed anything onto it yet. Strange issue! :(
 
Left it on overnight and it's downloaded them fine, must have been an issue with their servers. Thanks for the advice guys :)
