just installing all the latest win updates, and getting annoyed at the fact ill have to do it again when i next format (with a possible upgrade in the near future), so is there a way to backup all these updates now so i dont need to do them again?

You can integrate pretty much any update onto a Windows installation CD, it's usually called 'slipstreaming' and it means you can keep a clean, up-to-date installer ready for when you do need to format and start over :)

A good starter site and more info is here.

I also recommend nLite, if only for mass-integrating loads of hotfixes.

just noticed this C:\686f0edc50e6759237 folder on my drive wen installing updates, would this be usful to backup???

got another issue with windows updates, in short... they clash with with HP photosmart 1315 printer on install, not that bad though since i can simply unplug then everythings fine, just want to know why this may be happening and if i can fix it?

You'll be able to download any service packs and burn them to cd/dvd for future use. that's what I did when I had XP and I shall do the same for Vista.

I just ran the latest updates on my XP machine and after a restart I'm getting the following errors in the system list under computer management:

Any thoughts? Can I just ignore it? All tech docs seem to relate to Server 2003.

If you got Vista you would not need to reinstall Windows :)
lol what a daft statement  Vista (in my experience on desktop and laptop) suffers the same problems as XP in that an occasional re-install can be needed to alleviate the slowdowns and general problems :/

No idea what those errors are as I haven't personally seen them happen to me, but XP x64 uses the Server 2003 kernel so that's why all the articles refer to that, it's the same codebase.

Yesterday's Vista updates knocked out my system. I presume that wasn't supposed to happen?

It said it was automatically installing 8 updates and then Windows failed to restart. Anyone else have problems with Vista's recent updates?
