I think it would only need to be about 8GB. Plenty of guides on Google/YouTube if you search for install windows 8.1 from usb.

Sorry i was thinking of an SSD

ive got a spare 16gb USB so i could use that

Yeah should just be enough for Windows.

If I download Windows 10 creation tool on a works computer onto my spare USB stick does this mean I'll have the people version of Windows on my home PC... If so I'll do this tonight

I think you can choose which version you want using the tool. Not 100% sure though.
